Marathon Monday

Yesterday was Patriots' Day. Originally meant to commemorate the battles of Lexington and Concord, it has morphed into quite the local holiday. In addition to battle reenactment, typically there is a Sox game (which we won handily) and of course there is the Boston Marathon. Back when I was as student at Wellesley College, this was quite possibly my favorite day on campus. By the end of the day one's hand was inevitably scummed up with an accumulation of goodness knows what from slapping the hands of runners passing by hundreds of screaming Wellesley undergrads through what is affectionately called "the wall of sound". It would take a couple of days for your vocal chords to recover from the exertion of screaming words of encouragement to the runner passing by. Apparently this year they were handing out kisses. Hmm...

I recently discovered the books on tape/CD section at the library here in Haverhill, and am currently listening to "French Lessons: Adventures with Knife, Fork, and Corkscrew" by Peter Mayle. This way I can get my reading fix and weave at the same time. Coincidentally, yesterday's chapter was on the Marathon du Medoc. Now this is my kind of race. It winds through the Burgundy region of France, and the winners get to take home their weight in wine! Now that is something I could run 26 miles-ish for, though I would probably end up stuck at the refreshment booth at mile seven, enjoying a glass of wine and some oysters. The best part is that apparently all but the most serious of individuals run the race in some sort of costume! Who doesn't love a good costume party?

And speaking of costumes, my wedding is just about a month away. I wove my most favorite thing ever for the wedding. It's a basic wool wrap, and while I can't say much more about it as it's my free project for Schacht to be published later this month, here is a little sneak peek of the material.
