Here I am at Smith College for NEWS (New England Weavers Seminar). Today I managed to get a bit of work and a jog around campus in before poking around the Lyman Plant House and Conservatory and the botanical gardens. I was in plant heaven. We're staying in dorm rooms which is fun in a campy sort of way. My big dilemma earlier was whether or not to wear my flip flops in the shower.
Totally off topic. There were two sheep in my animal crackers today. I think it's a baaaad sign that I was questioning whether or not to eat them.
Last night's opening talk was given by Daryl Lancaster. I have listened to her interview with Syne on WeaveCast a few times simply because I find her, more than any other weaver I have encountered, fascinating and inspirational. You can hear it by clicking here. Her slideshow of her weaving over time was excellent, and it put into perspective how time and effort can really improve one's craft. I find how she integrates her life stories into her weaving particularly poignant.
Day two means that I start my dyeing class. I feel like it's the night before Christmas, I'm so excited.
What a gorgeous campus! And that teasel, is that real fuller's teasel? And Daryl wearing that dress. Wow. It sounds like you're having a great time at NEWS!
